Frequently Asked Questions

What is a thermal imaging survey?

A heat loss/thermal imaging survey is a non-disruptive survey using a specialist device called an infrared camera.

This camera detects infrared energy emitting from an object and assigns a colour based on the surface temperature of that object.

When multiple objects are within focus the camera will display an array of different colours creating a ‘thermal image’.

We collate these ‘thermal images’ into a report which include our analysis and recommendations for your property.

Other than heat loss what can a thermographic survey identify?

  • Missing / discontinuous insulation

  • Performance of underfloor heating system

  • Water ingress

  • Condensation

  • Damp

  • Air infiltration / air leakage

  • Cold / thermal bridging

  • Pipe leaks

  • Performance of windows and frames

  • Inadequate fixings

Do I need a heat loss survey?

If you are planning on renovating your property, looking to reduce your energy bills or generally feeling cold in your property then you should consider in having a heat loss survey undertaken.

When is the best time to have a heat loss survey carried out?

In most cases we undertake our surveys from November to March when the ambient temperature is low.

How quickly can you send the report after the survey?

This will take a maximum of 48 hours after the survey has completed.

What qualifications do your thermographers hold?

Our thermographers all hold a minimum Category Level 1 certificate from ITC.
